Book 1, UNIVERSAL PATTERNS, examines certain triangles, rectangles, spirals, & number sequences that relate to recurring patterns in nature. The concept of the Golden Ratio is the spatial thread that weaves the ideas into a unified fabric. "Nature is relationships...,geometry describes relationships...,art creates relationships in space."

This book continues the exploration of two dimensions began in Universal Patterns. In the first chapter, readers are introduced to the notion of the grid and its function. The second chapter describes the symmetry operations of the point, line, and plane groups. Symmetry becomes the underlying concept that threads through the remaining chapters on Circles, Tilings, and Fractals. The last chapter, the Pliable Plane, is the lead into three dimensions.

This book involves the third dimension. It brings to the emerging field of design science, a lively text filled with diagrams, drawings, and photos. Its use is as diverse as its content. Not only will teachers in the disciplines of Art, Math and Science find the information useful, but artists and designers can learn much for their work in three space. This volume begins with the manipulation of the pliable plane to create 3-d folded structures. It moves on to show how the eternal triangle is used to build stable forms. The familiar cube generates other families of rectangular solids. Also explored are the properties of the sphere and its connections to solids called polyhedra. The latter are explored in great detail.
