Rokuro Umewaka was born in 1466 in Japan. It is said that his mother who became second wife of Wakasano-Kami Yasuhisa dreamed that she got a Noh mask when she was pregnant.

Rokuro Umewaka was born in 1466 in Japan. It is said that his mother who became second wife of Wakasano-Kami Yasuhisa dreamed that she got a Noh mask when she was pregnant.
Rokuro Umewaka was trained in Noh acting and became so skillful that he gave a command performance in the presence of Emperor Goisuchimikado in Shishiiden Hall at the Imperial Palace (1481). The Emperor was so pleased with his performance that he gave him the family title of Umewaka.
