Mr. Van der Meer was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on March 24, 1945. He is a son of Albert (a blacksmith) and Lucy (Dinkgreve) Van der Meer.
Ron Van der Meer attended Royal College of Fine Art, the Hague, Netherlands, from 1965 till 1969, and Royal College of Art, London, between 1969 and 1972.
Mr. Van der Meer has been a director of Van der Meer Paper Design Ltd., Langley, Berkshire, since 1985. From 1972 to 1973 Ron Van der Meer was a research fellow at Goldsmith’s College, University of London, and Design Research Department, Royal College of Art. He served as a visiting teacher in drawing techniques with a drawing aid at Chorleywood School for Girls with Little or No Sight between 1972 and 1975.
Mr. Van der Meer held the position of a visiting lecturer at Goldsmith’s College, University of London, in 1972-1976. From 1973 till 1985 he was a lecturer at Graphic Design department, St. Martin’s School of Art. Ron Van der Meer worked as a visiting teacher in typography and calligraphy at Eton College during 1974-1977. In 1976 he was appointed lecturer in Graphics Information department at Royal College of Art.
During 1977-1978 Ron Van der Meer was a visiting lecturer, Middlesex Polytechnic. He later became a designer and creator of games for Royal Society ROSPA and Globe Education. Since 1983 Mr. Van der Meer was appointed designer of toys and jigsaw puzzles Toy Trumpet Co. and then he became a designer of pop-up television commercial for Dettol and also a design consultant for Design Council, London. He has held a number of exhibitions: "Playthings for the Handicapped Child," Royal College of Art, 1971; "50 Odd Posters," RCA Galleries, 1972; "Woven Structures," Camden Art Centre, 1973; G.P.O. Galleries, the Hague, 1973; "Letter, Sign, Symbol," Nederlandse Kunst-stichting (Netherlands Institution of Art), 1975; "50 Drawings for the Blind," Whitechapel Art Gallery, 1975.
