Roshu Koganei V was born in 1877.

Career

Originally named Shokichi Ueno, Roshu Koganei V adopted the profession of storytelling at the late age of 40 when he became a pupil of Roshu III. Soon after he was considered qualified to take part in professional programs and eventually succeeded his master to become Roshu V. His dramatic way of reciting stories has elevated him high in professional circles and he is considered the successor of Hakuryu.
