Background

Ethnicity: Rosie's paternal great-grandmother, Enid Kohn, descended from a family of Polish Jews, who emigrated to England in the 1870s. Her paternal grandmother, Gillian, was also from a Jewish family.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was born on April 18, 1987, in Plymouth, United Kingdom. She is the daughter of Fiona (Jackson) Huntington-Whiteley, a fitness instructor, and Charles Huntington-Whiteley, a chartered surveyor.

Rosie is a great-granddaughter of Wing-Commander Eric Huntington-Whiteley JP, who, in his turn, was the nephew of George Whiteley, 1st Baron Marchamley and the younger son of politician Sir Herbert Huntington-Whiteley, 1st Baronet.

Education

Rosie spent her early years on a farm near Tavistock, Devon, and studied at Tavistock College. Growing up wasn't easy for her, cause she was bullied at the school due to three reasons: hyphenated name, small bust and full lips. Despite being teased and bullied, she was voted as "Person most likely to become a Supermodel," but she never believed, that she would make it. She wanted to become a designer to dress models, but fate had a different plan for her.

In her childhood, Rosie was very talkative, and at the age of 13, she was titled as "Miss Big Mouth."

Career

At the age of 15, Rosie was on the internship at London West End-based model agency Profile. The start of her career in modeling can be counted from 2003, when she appeared in a commercial for Levi's jeans. Her first big break occured in January 2004, when she travelled to New York City for a shoot with Teen Vogue. The same year, Rosie made her catwalk debut in New York City.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was signed to American lingerie brand Victoria's Secret in early 2006. She made her debut at the brand's fashion show, held in Los Angeles. For the next two years, however, she remained mostly unknown until she was cast by chief creative director, Christopher Bailey, in the autumn/winter campaign for Burberry. As her popularity increased, she was featured on the cover of the British Vogue magazine in November 2008 alongside two other models.

In 2009, Rosie modeled for Godiva and Miss Sixty. The following year, in 2010, she officially became one of the Victoria's Secret Angels and modeled for the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, held in New York City. She also posed nude for the Pirelli Calendar, photographed by Terry Richardson, the same year.

As she appeared in several other advertisement campaigns, her fame peaked to newer heights and fashion photographer, John Rankin Waddell, published a book, which was entirely devoted to her.

Rosiee made a solo appearance on the cover of the magazine British Vogue in March 2011 and later appeared on the covers of Elle and GQ magazines UK issues in July. Later. in 2013, she was announced as the face of the Australian cosmetics brand Modelco.

It's also worth mentioning, that, during her career, Rosie has appeared in advertising campaigns for many other brands, such as Dolce & Gabbana, Leon Max, Sportsmax, Marks & Spencer, Levi's, Macy's, Tommy Hilfiger, Clinique, Thomas Wylde, and BCBG.

Huntington-Whiteley has walked the runways for Givenchy, Burberry, Oscar De La Renta, Valentino, Michael Kors, Roberto Cavalli, Balmain, Louis Vuitton, DSquared2, Badgley Mischka, Blumarine, Versace, Vera Wang, Betsey Johnson, Alberta Ferretti, Prada, among others.

Speaking about her acting career, it's important to say, that Rosie made her acting debut in 2009 in a short film, where she played a woman, whose boyfriend forgot about Valentine's Day. In 2011, Huntington-Whiteley appeared as the new female lead in Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Huntington-Whiteley had her second acting role in the film Mad Max: Fury Road, which was released in May 2015. She assumed the role of The Splendid Angharad, one of the Five Wives of the warlord, Immortan Joe. In order to portray her pregnant character, she wore a prosthetic stomach throughout the film.

However, she once re-tweeted this thought from the Dalai Lama: "I am increasingly convinced that the time has come to find a way of thinking about spirituality and ethics beyond religion altogether." Despite having a distant family history in British politics and the fact, that her great-grandfather was a conservative member of parliament, Rosie doesn't appear involved in the least in the politics of her home country.
