Background
Bridport was the son of the Honourable Maurice Henry Nelson Hood, who was killed in action at Gallipoli in 1915, and his wife Ethel Rose (née Kendall), and succeeded his grandfather in the viscountcy in 1924.

Bridport was the son of the Honourable Maurice Henry Nelson Hood, who was killed in action at Gallipoli in 1915, and his wife Ethel Rose (née Kendall), and succeeded his grandfather in the viscountcy in 1924.
From 1939 to 1940 he held political office as a Lord-in-Waiting (government whip in the House of Lords) in the government of Neville Chamberlain. Lord Bridport married firstly Pamela Aline Mary, daughter of Charles J. Baker, in 1934.
