Farrand, Roy Felton was born on May 9, 1875 in Onalaska, Wisconsin, United States. Son of Ira Smith and Elizabeth Maud (Fahey) Farrand.

Education

Graduated from St. John’s Military Academy, Delafield, Wisconsin, 1894. Bachelor of Letters, University of Wisconsin, 1900. Doctor of Laws, Kenyon College, 1934.

Career

Elizabeth Ross; married second, Nita Smith Walker, October 30, 1947. With St. John’s Military Academy, from 1894, except when in College and in the United States Army, and president same from 1923. Appointed commandant cadets and instructor in military drill.

St. John’s Military Academy, 1894, also was member Wisconsin National Guard, advancing to brign general, 1940. Resigned commission after outbreak World War I and entered O.T.C., Fort Sheridan, Illinois, as private, graduating from 1st T.C. as major infantry. Served with French Army 12 months.

Honorary discharged, 1919. Colonel O.R.C., United States Army, commanding 403d United States.R. Infantry, 1921-1939, retired.

Member Wisconsin State Council of Defense. Chairman Selective Service Board. Member Executive Committee Association Military Colleges Schools of the United States (president, 1930-1932), American Legion (department commander 1930-1931), Military Order of World Wars, Theta Delta Chi, 40 and 8, Military Order of Foreign Wars (department commander 1939), Sojourners.

Mason. Writer and lecturer on education of boys and military training, Americanism and preparedness.
