Ruth Craig was born on March 30, 1922, in Massachusetts, United States. She is a daughter of H. M. Halverson, a college professor, and Theresa Halverson (maiden name Anderson).
Ruth Craig studied at Pomona College from which she graduated in 1943 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. From 1943 to 1944, she attended Navy Japanese Language School at the University of Colorado in Boulder.
Ruth Craig started her career from military service at the United States Navy where she served as an ensign from 1943 to 1944.
As to her writing activity, it began in 1972 when she became an editor at Humpty Dumpty Magazine for children. Four years later, Craig left the post and joined the Institute of Children’s Literature in West Redding, Connecticut as an instructor.
She also contributed articles for local weekly newspapers.
Craig’s debut novel for children, ‘Malu’s Wolf’, published in 1995, was inspired by the ideas developed by Konrad Lorenz in his ‘Man Meets Dog’. ‘Malu’s Wolf’ is set during the Stone Age where prehistoric values governed the obligations of men, women, and even children.
