Education
At the age of eight and Ryoan Isogawa began to study medicine.
Career
Later turned to writing and published the first historical romance in Japan titled Taiheiki and then another, Azumakagami, both of which he presented to Ieyasu (1601). Ryoan Isogawa entered the service of Tadateru Tokugawa in Shinano, Nagano Prefecture, and in Echigo, Niigata Prefecture. After a while he returned to Kyoto and practiced medicine for 40 years and won great fame as a doctor. Among his medical works are Yakumei Iroku and Shinkyu Yoryaku.
