In 1895 Tsunashima Ryosen graduated from Tokyo Semmon Gakko, Japan. While a student there and lodging at the home of Shoyo Tsubouchi, Shakespearean scholar, he was a regular contributor to Waseda Bungaku and was deeply influenced by Hogetsu Shimamura, Chikusui Kaneko and Dr. Hajime Onishi. He also liked to hold long discourses with Chogyu Takayama and came to be considered a serious student of philosophy.
Ryosen Tsunajima was originally a rationalist and then became a Christian.
Falling a victim to tuberculosis and his movements stricted thereby, he spent his last years in meditation and in religious study.
