Ryoson was born in Kawachi Province (Osaka Prefecture) in 1279. His family name was Kiyohara. Son of Morimichi.

Studied the Tendai Sect doctrine under Shunken of Mount Кoуа.
Career
He was converted to the faith of Ryonin, founder of the Nembutsu Sect (1321) and founded a temple in Settsu (Osaka Prefecture). Emperor Godaigo was an ardent follower of Ryoson. His fame reached even in China and the Chinese Emperor sent him copies of the Avatamska Sutra.
