Ryotaro Takai entered Inawashiro Hydroelectric Power Company, which later was merged into Tokyo Dento Kaisha (Tokyo Electric Light Company) (1923).
Visited U.S.A. (1928). He became director of the same company (1942), vice-president (1946) and then president of Kanto Electric Power Distribution Company and continued as president after the company was renamed Tokyo Electric Power Company (since 1951). Counselor of Dengen Kaihatsu Kaisha (Electric Resources Development Company).
He held additional posts of president of Kanto Denki Kyokai (Kanto Electricity Association) and director of Denki Kurabu (Electricity Club).
