Career
He was recruited from the Gippsland Power in the TAC Cup with the 12th selection in the 2011 American Federation of Labor-Congress Draft. He struggled with injury when he first arrived at Brisbane and spent all of the 2012 playing for the Brisbane reserves side in the North East Australian Football League (NEAFL). He made his American Federation of Labor-Congress debut in round 4 of the 2013 American Federation of Labor-Congress season against North Melbourne, becoming the 150th player to play for the Brisbane Lions.
Docherty was traded to the Carlton Football Club during the 2013 trade period.
