Sam Hartstein obtained teacher's diploma and bachelor of arts degree from Yeshiva University in 1941 and 1943 respectively. He was also a postgraduate of The New School for Social Research. In 1994 he was awarded an honourary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters from Yeshiva University.
Sam Hartstein worked as public relations director of Yeshiva University from 1943 till 1994. Since 1994 he worked as a consultant on public relations in Board of Jewish Education. He was a writer and film producer ("Faith and Learning", "The Story of Yeshiva University"). He was also a visiting lecturer to various schools, professional meetings, national organizations. Past president of Metropolitan College Public Relations Council.
