Samuel Jacob Aptekar was born on November 25, 1920, in Bangalore, Karnataka, India to advocate Jacob and his wife, Miriam.
Samuel Aptekar studied at Christ Church High School, then at St Mary’s High School. In June 1938 he entered the Grant Government Medical College. There he obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. Later getting a Master of Surgery.
In 1948, after obtaining his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, Samuel Aptekar returned to Mumbai, where he was appointed as Assistant Honorary Surgeon at the Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals. He was a chief surgeon at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Parel, Mumbai.
In early 1970, after moving to Israel, Samuel Aptekar became Chief Surgeon at the Poriya Hospital, Tiberius. His last post before retirement was Chief Surgeon at Italian Hospital, Nazareth.
Samuel Aptekar was a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.
Samuel Aptekar was married to Naomi Ezekiel Awaskar and had 3 children: daughter Shayela, sons Itzhak and Yfrah.
They were collegues at the Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals.
