(This book was originally published prior to 1923, and rep...)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

(Leopold Classic Library is delighted to publish this clas...)
Leopold Classic Library is delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive collection. As part of our on-going commitment to delivering value to the reader, we have also provided you with a link to a website, where you may download a digital version of this work for free. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. Whilst the books in this collection have not been hand curated, an aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature. As a result of this book being first published many decades ago, it may have occasional imperfections. These imperfections may include poor picture quality, blurred or missing text. While some of these imperfections may have appeared in the original work, others may have resulted from the scanning process that has been applied. However, our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. While some publishers have applied optical character recognition (OCR), this approach has its own drawbacks, which include formatting errors, misspelt words, or the presence of inappropriate characters. Our philosophy has been guided by a desire to provide the reader with an experience that is as close as possible to ownership of the original work. We hope that you will enjoy this wonderful classic book, and that the occasional imperfection that it might contain will not detract from the experience.

In the month of February last, the writer of the following pages ventured to submit to the public a few remarks upon the state of our monetary affairs, and the conduct of the Bank of England in the management of the currency. The peculiar character of the events then in progress seemed calculated to draw more than usual attention to discussions of that nature, and in adverting to them he endeavoured not only to lay before the public a correct view of the position in which we then stood, but also to derive from passing events some instruction as to the general principles upon which the management of the circulating medium ought to be regulated. Loyd was born on the 25th of September 1796. He was the only son of Reverend Lewis Loyd, a Welsh dissenting minister, and Sarah, daughter of John Jones, a Manchester banker.
He was educated at Eton and Trinity College, Cambridge.
His father, who had married a daughter of John Jones, a banker of Manchester, had given up the ministry to take a partnership in his father-in-law's bank, and had afterwards founded the London branch of Jones, Loyd & Co. , afterwards incorporated in the London and Westminster Bank.
Loyd, who had joined his father in the banking business, succeeded to it on the latter's retirement in 1844. He conducted the business so successfully that on his death he left personal property of over £2, 000, 000. He sat in parliament as liberal member for Hythe from 1819 to 1826, and unsuccessfully contested Manchester in 1832.
He died in London on the 17th of November 1883, leaving one daughter, who married Robert James Loyd-Lindsay, afterwards Lord Wantage.

Loyd sat in parliament as Whig member for Hythe from 1819 to 1826.
He was a member of the British Relief Association.
Lord Overstone married Harriet, daughter of Ichabod Wright, in 1829. They had one son, who died as an infant, and a daughter. Lady Overstone died in November 1864. Overstone remained a widower until his death in November 1883, aged 87. The barony died with him as he had no surviving male issue. The majority of his considerable fortune was passed on to his daughter, the Honourable Harriet Sarah Loyd.
