Sandra received a B.A. degree in 1955, a M.A. degree in 1959 and a Ph.D. degree in 1963 from the University of Illinois. She and studied at the University of Bonn, University of Munich, and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). In 1997, Bartky received an honorary degree, Doctor of Humanities, from New England College.
Sandra worked as an associate professor of philosophy at the University of Illinois at Chicago, since 1970 and was a chair of women’s studies program.
She was a fellow of National Endowment for the Humanities, member of American Philosophy Association and Society for Women in Philosophy. In 1977, Bartky became an associate of the Women's Institute for Freedom of the Press (WIFP).
