Fellman attended Sir John Cass College of Fine Arts in London (1972) and the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where she earned a BS in Art (1973) and an MFA with a specialization in photography and typography (1976).
Since 1979 she has been an assistant professor of art at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Prior to that she taught at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque (1978- 79), at Bemidji State University in Minnesota (1976-78) and also gave numerous workshops and lectures.
She began in 1973, documenting prostitutes working at the Mustang Ranch in Nevada, in black-and-white. [Her] current work (large color prints) continues to be involved with the sensuous, the tactile and what might be characterized as 'female rituals' in a more nonspecific, abstract manner.
She has been a member of CAA, SPE, and George Eastman House in Rochester since 1973.
