Background
Kopp grew up in Germany and graduated to Abitur with majors in Fine Art and English in 1998. He then emigrated to New Zealand, his mother’s home country, in 2000 where he lived and studied in Wellington.

His work deals with the concept of mediated presence and explores the meeting points of classical painting and digital technology. Since 2006 he has been based in Nairn in the Highland region of Scotland working primarily on oil portraits of family and friends painted from Skype conversations. Kopp’s work has been exhibited internationally.
