Sarah Schmidt was a graduate of University of Chicago, receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree. She also obtained Master's in Health Law from Baltimore College of Jewish Studies. She also was a student of University of Maryland at College Park, from which she earned Doctor of Philosophy.
From 1974 to 1978 Mrs. Schmidt worked at University of Maryland at College Park, serving as a lecturer in American studies. During 1978-1979 she occupied the post of an associate director at Institute for Jewish Policy Planning and Research, Washington, DC. In 1979-1981 Mrs. Schmidt joined the staff of Holocaust Memorial Council, Washington, DC, acting as a deputy director.
She was a director of Israel Office at Rockland Community College, Suffern, NY, between 1985 and 1988. Since 1994 Sarah Schmidt was appointed by Tel Aviv University, Tel Aviv, Israel, holding the post of a senior lecturer. In 1995 she was appointed senior lecturer at Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Mrs. Schmidt was a contributor to periodicals, including Forum, American Educator, Midstream, American Jewish Archives Journal, and American Jewish Historical Quarterly.
