He was a police officer in Fukushima Prefecture before he went to Korea as a correspondent of the Kyushu Nichnichi Shimbun (newspaper) during the Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895).
Assisted Kenzo Adachi in starting the KanJo Shimbun (newspaper) in Seoul (1895). Involved in the Bimpi Trouble he was imprisoned in Hiroshima. After' he was released, he again went to Seoul, looked after language students from his native Kumamoto Prefecture for years. Maintained a ranch near Seoul in his late years.
