Sato Churyo was born on 1762 in Edosaki, Ibaraki, Japan.
He vowed to write books on phamacology totaling 1,000 volumes and traveled widely in Japan collecting medical herb specimens. He collectedmedical herbs in Satsuma Province (Kagoshima Prefecture) at the request of its lord and lectured on pharmacology at the Koseido School of the Yonezawa Clan (Yamagata Prefecture) at the request of its lord. He became an official of the Mita Clan (1800).
