He and Keisai Asami were called the two greatest disciples of Ansai. He, however, was excommunicated from the Yamazaki school because of his disagreement with the group of Ansai's disciples led by Kompai Ueda. He was employed by the lords of the Fukuyama and Umayabashi (Maebashi) clans. Wrote many books.
