He graduated from the 2nd male gymnasium, which was part of the literary and regional studies group, that was made around the teacher D. I. Shemelinov. He graduated from the Medical Faculty of Kharkov University (1916). He also studied at the Medical Faculty of Voronezh State University during 1919 - 1922.
In Voronezh, he lived since the beginning of the 1900s. In the last years of his life, he worked as a dermatologist at the Voronezh Children's Railway Hospital.
Since his youth, he was fond of collecting antiquarian publications. In the post-war library of Denotkin, there were many bibliographic rarities, including a special list of "Woe from Wit" by A.S. Griboyedov (1824, later a copy was transferred to Ya.S. Sidorin). His interest in books gave a common ground to Denotkin and I.V. Bubnov, I.A. Skuridin and others.
