Wade, a Tasmanian recruit, spent three seasons at Hawthorn and made two appearances in their premiership year of 1983. In 2006 he was inducted into the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame. He was the Chief Executive Officer (Chief Executive Officer) of American Federation of Labor-Congress Tasmania, a position he had held since 1999, until he resigned on the 9th of March 2016.
The decision did not come as a surprise as Scott Wade oversaw the introduction and demise of the Tasmanian Devils VFL program and the subsequent sacking of coach Daryn Cresswell, he was also in charge when the Tassie Mariners were cut back to a part time program, and more recently the failed merger between Hobart and North Hobart, and the inability for the Prospect Hawks to field a team in the 2016 senior competition.
Wade was the third high profile executive to leave the organisation in less than a month, following the resignations of TSL general manager Sean Young, and Tasmanian Football Council boss Barry Gibson. His departure coincides with the intimate release of Simon Garlick"s report into the state of Tasmanian Football.
