Education
Graduated from Tokyo University's Law School (1896).
Career
After graduating from Tokyo University, he was appointed professor at Doshisha University in Kyoto. Two years later, he joined the editorial staff of the Osaka Asahi newspaper and became its chief economic editor. When the Osaka Gas Company indemnification case arose (1902), he aroused public opinion in favor of establishment of an indemnification contract system for municipal companies. He visited Europe on an inspection tour (1905). After returning to Japan he became editor-in-chief of the Tokyo Nichi Nichi newspaper. In 1911 he returned to the Osaka Asahi as a guest writer. Although he took a leading part in the Constitutional government protection movement (1912), he soon ceased political activities and started an economic magazine, Financial and Economic Times.
