Taki Seiichi was born on December 23, 1873 in Tokyo, Japan. He was the eldest son of Katei Taki.
After graduating from Tokyo University in 1897, Taki made a detailed study of aesthetics and later became a student of the Tokyo Academy of Fine Arts, Kyoto University and Tokyo University. In 1912 he was sent abroad for further studies.
He was made emeritus professor at Tokyo University in 1933 and was on the committee which appointed artists to the Imperial Court. Toward his end he edited Kokka (National Flower), a magazine devoted to the fine arts.
