Semyon Ivanovich Chaikin was bo on February 13, 1919, in Terekhovo, Voronezh oblast, Russian Federation.
Semyon Ivanovich graduated from the Verkhneozersky Agricultural College (1937), the Geological Department of Voronezh State University (1942).
Semyon Ivanovich was a geologist, chief geologist of the Atasu exploration expedition in Kazakhstan (1942-1952). He worked on expeditions in the North Caucasus, in the city of Krivoy Rog (1952-1954). Semyon Ivanovich was a chief geologist of the Belgorod iron-ore expedition (1954-1968), head of the department of All-Russian Research Institute for the drainage of mineral deposits (Belgorod, 1968-1988).
Semyon Ivanovich was an expert consultant on ferrous metals in a number of foreign countries. In 1987, he discovered the Vislovskoye bauxite and iron-ore deposit. He was the author of monographs.
