Education
He graduated from Biryuchensky Theological School (1881), Voronezh Theological Seminary (1887). During his studies in Voronezh he got acquainted with the theater.
Career
After graduating from the Moscow Theater School (1898, teacher Alexander Pavlovich Lensky) - an artist of the Moscow Maly Theater. He worked in the New Theater (branch of the Maly Theater, Moscow) under the leadership of Alexander Pavlovich Lensky.
He played about 200 roles: Krutitsky ( "Enough Stupidity in Every Wise Man"), Vyshnevsky ( "A Profitable Post"), Ivan the Terrible ( "Vasilisa Melentyeva") Berendey ( "Snow Maiden" by Alexander Ostrovsky), Arakcheev ( "Arakcheyev" Ivan Stepanovich Plato), King Leont (Winter Tale), Julius Caesar (Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare) and others.
Teacher (since 1904) of the Moscow Theater School. The director (since 1909). In the Maly Theater has staged: "Before dawn," Pyotr Gnedich (1910), "Vasilisa Melentyeva" (1914), "On the busiest place" (1915), Alexander Ostrovsky, and others. Head of the studio named after M.N. Ermolova (1925-1930, Moscow).
