He graduated from Biryuchensky Theological School (1881), Voronezh Theological Seminary (1887). During his studies in Voronezh he got acquainted with the theater.
After graduating from the Moscow Theater School (1898, teacher Alexander Pavlovich Lensky) - an artist of the Moscow Maly Theater. He worked in the New Theater (branch of the Maly Theater, Moscow) under the leadership of Alexander Pavlovich Lensky.
