Sergey Volkov graduated from the piano department of the Grozny Musical College in 1964, the faculty of composition in the Leningrad Conservatory in 1971.
Sergey Volkov worked as an accompanist in a sports school in Grozny from 1964 till 1966. In Voronezh, he worked since 1971. Sergey Nikolayevich held the post of Teacher of theoretical disciplines in Voronezh Music College, lecturer and musicologist of the Voronezh Regional Philharmonic Society from 1971 till 1987. Since the 1970s, he has been an active participant in many music festivals, plenums, creative meetings, prepared and hosted dozens of city musical competitions-reviews, assisted many amateur art collectives.
He is the author of the music for 16 dramatic performances in Voronezh such as "Three Musketeers", "Rain poured out like a bucket", "Suicide", "Bahram's Inheritance", "Liar", "Elephant" (drama theater) and others.
The author of music for musicals, musical tales and choreographic compositions ("Immortality", "Voronezh evenings", "Detective" - Opera and Ballet Theatre). He created a lot of orchestral works: 2 symphonies, Symphonietta, symphonic fantasies, suites from Andersen's fairy tales, Dreams from childhood), poems (Memory, Blagovest), the overture "The Juvenile Sea"; works for chamber and string orchestras, variety and jazz composition and instruments department, compositions for children's and mixed chorus, romances for poems by Alexander Pushkin, Fedor Tyutchev, Andrei Platonov, Samuil Marshak and other Russian poets.
