Sergey Aleksandrovich Tikhomirov was born on the 27th of March, 1955 in Komsomolsk-na-amure, Russian Federation, where his parents worked. In 1956, the family returned to Lipetsk. Sergey's parents were people of technical professions, but they created an atmosphere of creativity in the house. He was fond of music and wanted to make cartoons. At this time, Serafim Andreevich Tikhomirov, Sergei's grandfather, was the chief architect of the city.
Sergey Aleksandrovich tried to get into the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography. It was not successful because of his poor characteristic. In 1976 he graduated from the faculty of Philology of Lipetsk State Pedagogical Institute
After graduating from the philological faculty of Lipetsk State Pedagogical Institute (1976) Sergey Aleksandrovich worked as a teacher of a rural school, then as a production designer in the Lipetsk region drama theatre in the national youth theatre.
Sergey Aleksandrovich learned the foundations of the operator and correspondent profession on Voronezh state television, in radio and Lipetsk TV companies. In 1984, he founded a film club "Garden" in Lipetsk. That project helped to organize retrospectives of films by leading directors, thematic film festivals, and all-Union seminars of film club leaders.
In 1988, Sergey Aleksandrovich was elected a member of the Central Council of the Federation of film clubs of the USSR. In 1989, he represented the country at the International Congress of film clubs in Germany. In 1992, he created his own video studio "New day", where Sergey Aleksandrovich was engaged in film education and production of films about the history, nature, and culture. Since 2004, he has been a member of the Union of cinematographers of the Russian Federation. He has been engaged in film and video production as an individual entrepreneur since 2005.
Sergey Aleksandrovich has a daughter.
