In 1869 Karpinsky graduated from the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of Kharkov University. After graduation he began a career of lecturer.
Karpinsky was a lecturer at the Tambov (1870-1873), Voronezh (1873-1878) gymnasiums, inspector of the Voronezh rural school (1878-1883), director of a teacher’s seminary (1883-1910), and full state adviser (1903).
One of the founders and commander of the Petrovsky Yacht Club (Voronezh, 1875-1917). Comrade chairman and board member of the Voronezh District Society for Water Rescue (1900-1917).
Member of the Voronezh Provincial Statistical Committee and Voronezh Scientific Archival Commission (since 1900).
