An introduction to Chilean birds by Thomas Howell precedes a section on Chile's geography and life zones. Black-and-white line drawings by the Chilean artist Mariano Bernal illustrate the text. A detailed description of species and subspecies, preferred habitat, range and distribution accompanies each illustration. English, Spanish, French, German and scientific names are given for all birds. Included is a pull-out map of Chile that shows the major cities and rivers of the twelve political Regions, offshore islands and the Antarctic Peninsula. 400 pages.
