Education

Sheikh Rustum Ali came to the United States in 1965 on a Fulbright scholarship to New York University in New York City, and eventually earned a Ph.D. in political science from American University in Washington, District of Columbia, in 1975.

Career

Sheikh Rustum Ali joined the faculty of North Carolina Central University in 1979, and was soon promoted to full professor. His first book "Saudi Arabia and Oil Diplomacy" (1976) was adapted from his doctoral dissertation and was followed by nine other scholarly works, including further volumes on petropolitics, four political dictionaries, and several volumes about the third-world.

Ali's major works were "The Presidential-Congressional Political Dictionary", "The Trilemma of World Oil Politics", and "State and Local Government Political Dictionary"; his last reference guide "The International Organizations and World Order Dictionary" was issued in 1992. Besides, two of his reference books have been reprinted in the 1990s, indicating a continued academic interest in these topics.
