Sheldon Oberman was an award-winning Canadian children's writer who lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Background
Born on March 20, 1949, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Mr. Oberman (known to friends as Obie) grew up in the city's North End. He was a son of Allan Oberman (a champion weightlifter and cafe owner) and Dorothy Stein (known as Dot Dobie, a psychic counsellor).
Education
After graduating from St. Johns High School, he studied literature first at the University of Winnipeg, from which he obtained Bachelor of Arts (with honors) in 1972. In 1973 Sheldon finished a graduate study at Oberman University of Jerusalem. He earned his Bachelor of Education from University of Manitoba.
Starting from 1976 Mr. Oberman served as a high school teacher in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He has worked variously as a journalist, editor, scriptwriter, playwright, songwriter, actor, and director of short films; performs regularly as a storyteller and also was a guest speaker.

Sheldon Oberman married Lee Anne Block (a teacher/director) on August 9, 1973, later they divorced. He then married Lisa Dveris (a therapist/social worker) on September 2, 1990. Mr. Oberman has three children: Adam, Mira, Jesse.
