Pacific, 1912-1924; with Naval Mission to Peru, S.A., 1924-1926. Canal Zone, 1928-1930. War College, 1932-1935.

Navy Department, 1936-1939. Chief staff United States Fleet, 1940-1941. Commander Cruiser Division 5, Pacific Fleet, 1941.

Commandant Puget Sound Navy Yard, Bremerton, Washington, 1942-1943. Appointed vice admiral, commander Service Force Atlantic Fleet, 1944. Commandant 14th Naval District, also Haawaiian Sea frontier, 1945.

Retired vice admiral, 1947.
