When a youth, he traveled widely and studied Shinto and Buddhist religions and Confucian philosophy.
Career
He established Jikkosha, a Shinto organization (1878) and established the Jikkosha Sect of Shintoism (1883). Became the head of the sect which emphasized prayer for the safety of Japan.
