He graduated from History Course of Kyoto University (1916).
After serving as instructor (from 1922) and assistant professor (from 1933) was appointed professor of Kyoto University.
Bases his academical researches upon cultural history and folklore. He is s a follower of Kyuo Shibata and his Shingaku (popularized ethics expounded in form of moral discourse). Also is well versed in municipal history of Kyoto.
