Shigeakira Ikeda was born in 1867.
After graduating from Keio University proceeded to America for further studies.
Returning home, entered the Mitsui concern. Ikeda's work was mainly with the Mitsui Bank, from which in the 1930's he rose to head the entire Mitsui concern. Was appointed Governor of Bank of Japan (1937), Finance Minister (1938) and was Minister of Commerce and Industry till the end of World War II. Was purged by the Allied Command after Japan surrendered.
