The son of Hidemasa Matsukura.
He originally served Hideyoshi Toyotomi, but due to some disagreement with Sakon Shima, a powerful retainer of Mitsunari Ishida, he changed over to Ieyasu Tokugawa and distinguished himself during the Osaka-jin from 1614 till 1615 and was granted a fief oi 43,000 koku in Shimabara. Later secured permission to invade Luzon from the Shogunate, but could not do so as he succumbed to an illness.
