Career
After graduating from Tokyo University (1913) he opened a second-hand book shop in Kanda, Tokyo. A little later he expanded his business and turned publisher, under the name Iwanami Publishing Co. This was a great success and in the course of 30 years is said to have published almost 65 million volumes, including such titles as Complete Works of S5seki Natsume. series are known as the Iwanami Library and other books on philosophy, science, and literature. In the course of his career visited Europe and America in 1940.
