Shingen Takeda was born in 1521 in Kai Province (Yamanashi Prefecture), Japan. Original personal name: Taro.
At an early age he was appointed Daizen-dayu (master of ceremonies) and became the Lord of Shmano (Nagano Prefecture). He donned priestly robes (1551) and as his father was too austere and somewhat dim, Shingen with the support of his clansmen, forced his father to retire m favor of Shingen. In this position, with an urge for power, he began waging a series of battles with rival clansmen in an effort to unify the feudal lords at Kyoto. When he seemed within sight of his goal he was taken ill and died at Komaba in Shinano.
