Shinno Takanage was born in 1311. He was the son of Emperor Godaigo and Empress Tameko Fujiwara.

Shinno Takanage was born in 1311. He was the son of Emperor Godaigo and Empress Tameko Fujiwara.
Shinno Takanage helped his father m the latter's war against the Shogunate, but after Emperor Godaigo was exiled, he returned to Kyoto only to be exiled in turn to Tosa (Kochi Prefecture) (1332). He returned to Kyoto after the Shogunate was destroyed.
Later when Takauji Ashikaga rose in revolt in Kamakura, he and Yoshisada Nitta set forth to subdue him but were defeated at Takeshita (Shizuoka Prefecture) (1335).
The following year Takauji fell upon Kyoto and Takanaga together with Prince Tsunenaga and Yoshiaki Nitta retreated to Kanagasaki (Fukui Prefecture), but were attacked by the enemy, and Takanaga after helping Prince Tsunenaga to escape killed himself.
He was intelligent and of fair appearance.
