Shiro Inoue was born in Nagoya.
Shiro Inoue studied Haiku poetry under Gyodai, learnt the Japanese classics from Norinaga Moto-ori and painting from Hanko.
Shiro Inoue was good at painting landscapes and flowers, specially bamboos in black. Was not interested in fame, but still disciples flocked to him from all over the country. Became acquainted with Buson Yosa in Kyoto (1774). Participated in the Haiku gathering held by the Nijo family (1788).
Shiro Inoue was more interested in literary pursuits and fine arts.
