He graduated from Tokyo Foreign Language School (1914) and studied in the English Literature Course of Waseda University.
Shiro Sotomura was instructor of Russian literature at Waseda University and Tokyo Foreign Language School (since 1920).
He compiled the "Russo-Japanese Pocket Dictionary" and served with the Research Bureau, Foreign Office, during the war. At the end of the war, he was interned by the Soviet forces in Manchuria.
