Career
Shiro Sugai served successively as professor of Military Academy, official researcher of Planning Board (from 1941) and official researcher of Home Ministry and opened up new fields of activity for geographers in local land planning and national land planning.
He received degree in science (1947). Wrote numerous theses on utilization of foothills of volcanoes and farming in their environs.
After the war served as member of Economic Stabilization Board and thereafter was appointed to chief of General Examination Department of National Diet Library. Holds additional post as instructor of Tokyo Metropolitan University.
