Fedor Nikolaevich Milkov worked as a teacher in high school (1938-1941). From 1941 to 1950 was a teacher, associate professor, professor, head of the department of geography of Chkalovsky State Pedagogical Institute (now Orenburg State Pedagogical University). Since 1950 was a Professor, Head of the Department of Physical Geography at Voronezh State University. Chairman of the Voronezh Department of the All-Union Geographical Society.
For many years he led the Voronezhskie Dali column in the "Kommuna" newspaper. The initiator of collective research: "Galich'ya Gora", "Kamennaya Heath", "Podvoronezhie", "Don Belogorie" and others. Author of over 500 works, in which he paid great attention to the aesthetic side of the Central Russian landscape.
