Shohachi Ishii was born in 1926.
While yet a school student Shohachi Ishii showed his skill in wrestling by winning the National Students’ Wrestling meet in the bantam class. After graduating from Chuo University (1952) he turned professional.
In the Japan USA meet Shohachi Ishii recorded two wins and two falls. Later on a wrestling tour to the United States he had an average of two wins, one fall and one draw. Was Japan’s representative at the XVth Olympic Games at Helsinki where he was awarded a gold medal for having won all seven fights.
