Shoji Kiyokawa participated in the 10th Olympic Games at Los Angeles (1932). He won the 100-meter backstroke event in the record time of 1:08.6. He participated in the 11th Olympic Games at Berlin as captain and won third prize and set up a new world record in the 400-meter backstroke event with a time of 5:30.4.
