Shoni studied at Barry University and received Bachelor of Science in 1980. She also attended Norwich University and received Master of Arts in 1985.
Shoni began to work as the photographic journalist at Barton Gillette Art Agency in Baltimore in 1966. She also was a coordinator of program development department continuing education at Broward Creative Commons in Fort Lauderdale, 1982-1985. During that time she was the director of the Women's Center department continuing education too.
From 1986 she was a stress reduction consultant at Center Psychological Services in Fort Lauderdale. Shoni worked at Chaplain Hospice, Inc., 1987-1990. Since 1987 she was a Rabbi at Temple Adath Or.
She was a creator, president (spiritual health spa programs) Living Waters, since 1995. Radio host Spiritual Focus, WNN-AM, Boca Raton in 1998.
Labowitz was the author of Miraculous Living: A Guided Journey in Kabbalah Through the Ten Gates of the Tree of Life. The book includes insights into Taoism and Buddhism as well as mystical Judaism in framing an understanding of and steps to a spiritual life. Meditations are included in each chapter. A Publishers Weekly reviewer described it as being “between a workbook for a spiritual journey and a commentary on the wisdom tradition of the Tree of Life.” “All readers, regardless of religious faith, will benefit from this meditative approach.” wrote a Library Journal reviewer.
In her work God, Sex, and Women of the Bible: Discovering Our Sensual, Spiritual Selves, Labowitz offers personal anecdotes and experiences of women who attend her workshops as she explores the lives of women of the Bible and their significance to women today. “Labowitz’s penetrating readings provide fresh insights into oft-told biblical tales,” wrote a Publishers Weekly reviewer.
